I had the idea for Deskbreeze a few years ago, when my daughter started sailing. She wasn’t at school yet, so she couldn’t read the course’s instruction manual. As a somewhat “ambitious” maker dad I thought I’d build a wind tunnel.
My aim was to show how the wind is deflected by the sail, how the boat’s course is related to the wind, and to show simple aerodynamic processes: Where a flow is laminar, and when it becomes turbulent.
A few years later I came into contact with SailGP Inspire, and they bought two wind tunnels. Deskbreeze is a project that probably will go on for a long time.
